Condo in Spanish Springs

This photo shows a small sections of condos in a condo village just north of downtown Spanish Springs. A few years ago, we decided to purchase the condo on the far left. It is an older structure and somewhat small, but we liked the fact it was close to the action in Spanish Springs, plus it came with a nice golf car.

We made an offer, put money down and waited for the home inspection report. Our one major requirement was that it be made of concrete block.  It is our firm opinion one should not live in a wooden house in Florida for hurricanes tend to turn them into kindling in a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately, the home inspection report noted that it was, indeed, made of wood with a stucco exterior. We cancelled the contract and that, as they say, was that.

In hindsight, it was too small for our needs and a bit too expensive and the monthly fees in The Villages were, and are, exorbitant. So, all's well that end's well.

There must be 50,000 golf cars in The Villages by now. This is one of them. A custom job.

Yardarm - Lake Sumter Landing

This is a recent photograph. A few years back I took a similar photo of this yardarm. Shortly thereafter I was informed that a corporation had "borrowed" my photo and incorporated it into their website.

I checked. They did that. I sent them a letter requesting they cease and desist. They never responded. So I had to decide if it was worth the time, money and aggravation to sue them. I decided it was not.

Still, it burns me that their theft goes unpunished.

To hell with them. I mean that literally!

Tree Trunks

I cannot remember the name of this bit of flora, but that could be because I've been "barking" up the wrong tree...

Honest John's Whiskey & Provisions

This building has through several configurations. Most recently, it was a TGI Friday's. But that didn't work, so now it's transformed into Honest John's Whiskey and Provisions. It appears to be a typical casual restaurant, much like TGI Fridays. We have not eaten there yet as the menu was not to our tastes.

It is located in Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages.

Bob and Friend

We met Bob and his handsome canine friend in Lake Sumter Landing.  It was a beautiful day and they were relaxing on a bench.  He graciously consented to have his photo taken after his friend insisted.

Bob is a veteran of the U.S. Army and lives in The Villages.

I have a great urge to say "Woof!" which is "Thank You!" in the Canine Language.

Brownwood Bovine

You will find this bovine gracing the walls of The Villages Sales Offices in Brownwood, one of the three "hometowns" in The Villages. She doesn't have much to say but is interesting to look at; sort of like a Hollywood starlet.

Buena Vista Boulevard and Highway 466

If you drove south on Buena Vista Boulevard for about 2 miles you'd come to Lake Sumter Landing. If you continued south on Buena Vista for another 6-7 miles you'd arrive at the new hometown, Brownwood.

The Darlings

"Dahlin', did you know the Darlings?  They used to live in Manhattan."

"Sure!  You must remember.  They're the folks who tried to drive a golf car down Fifth Avenue and were almost run over by a cab. I heard they sold their golf car to someone in The Villages."

"Thank you, Dahlin'.  Now I no longer have to worry about them."

The Center for the Performing Arts - Spanish Springs

This is a rear view of a building that was once The Villages Community Church. I don't know what happened, but the powers-that-be probably figured they'd get more people to see a play than they would to participate in a church worship service.
