Gift shop in Brownwood
Tne other day we spent a couple of hours in Brownwood, the newest downtown of The Villages. It is located just outside of Wildwood which is about 30 miles south of Ocala.
The Villages now extends for miles in every direction from where it was conceived and birthed. It's amazing to see thousands of homes, many thousands of golf cars, numerous golf courses, recreation centers, swimming pools, and shopping centers spread out over this huge area which was not long ago dotted with horse farms and orange groves.
Brownwood is just getting started. There are many new buildings which have been constructed since our last visit of about a year and a half ago, but the majority of store fronts are still vacant. Several new restaurants are up and running, though, and we ate at Five Guys Burgers, a large fast-food chain.
We'll be posting additional Brownwood photos over the next few weeks.
Here are some fun facts about The Villages:

Wow. This means that every week the place changes inexorably.
... could you post a photo of each of those golf carts, please? I think they're great ;)
Amazing place! I love your colorful, delightful capture, Lowell!! Have a wonderful weekend!!
That's a bit too much in every sense of the word...
Not an inch of wasted space in this gift shop!
I always see signs for The Villages when I'm on my way to Orlando. One of these days I'm gonna have to stop and see it for myself!
That is quite a growth spurt. Sounds a lot like the Sun City villages here in Arizona.
Oh My Gosh!! Too bad about the groves and farms but that's just me.
I wish my income was at least a quarter of the average there.
Hugh place. MB
Amazing facts but aren't they a bit scary? I can not imagine it happening here (apart from the economic situation, of course). Maybe it's because I live in such a small country! :-)
Tres interesting facts and figures Lowell.. i had no idea that The Villages was so widespread and had such a big population...and still growing! Enjoyed what you did to your image, is that a bit of HDR ?
P.s. Hope the rain stayed away for your golf game :)
Holy cow! The growth is amazing!
