In some ways, The Villages is similar to the town in the movie "The Truman Show." As you walk about The Villages your ears are constantly compromised by programming from The Villages radio station, much of it consisting of conservative talk shows.
The incessant voices, the chatter, the invitations to pay homage to The Villages founder by praying to his statue in the town square. "Keep those monthly dues and taxes coming in, and don't flinch at paying twice market value for your Villages home, and pay no attention to the mighty man behind the curtain," said the all powerful Oz.
Good morning! I am eagerly awaiting the Bill Geist segment on CBS Sunday Morning--it's about the golf carts of The Villages! I've just searched your blog for all of your golf cart posts, as a sort of preview, a tease, if you will. Thanks!
Ugh. Our local AM news station has about two hours of local news, and the other 22 hours of the day are filled with syndicated, bombastic right-wingers. I think it must be a charitable service for the few lonely conservatives around here, who must feel like little islands of enlightenment surrounded by dirty liberal hippies.
Steffe's comment made me laugh. I think that is a good way to view/listen to talk radio in general. I often wonder why on sports talk shows in particular, and political shows, the callers and hosts always seem to be yelling over one another and not listening.
@tcat: I hope you didn't get the impression that this blog has a negative view of The Villages. We love The Villages and although we don't live there, spend a good deal of time there. If you look through the photos, I think that you will realize they promote a beautiful vision of what The Villages is all about.
But, The Villages isn't perfect. As a community, it has lots of problems. In this post, I offered my opinion of the incessant blather of conservative talk shows over the public address system, which I resent.
The Villages is one of the fastest-growing retirement communities in the United States.
Located in Central Florida, about an hour's drive northwest of Orlando, the Villages is now home to some 150,000 residents, many of which travel the area via golf cart.
There are now three "home towns" in The Villages, Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood. Music and dancing is provided nightly in the town squares of each of the home towns.
The Villages is a beautiful community and we hope you enjoy viewing our photos showcasing its many charms.

That doesn't sound like much fun!
Unless you pretend that they are joking!

"Conservative talk shows" must be boring to death... :/
God bless you!

Ah... Silence is my thing. Or Beethoven.

Wow. Have you ever crossed this bridge, have you ever been...outside? ;-)
Must not be a very big town? =)

The dark brown colors seem so unFloridalike here.
This is my first time viewing these posts and I must say to the negativity of the Villages, this.
"He, who hears not the music, thinks daft those that dance"
The Villages is that place between the world you live in, and Heaven.
