I'm starting to get more intrigued by this golf cart society than I ever believed possible.
Re: Mt. Hood. Yes, it's a very sad turn of events. I just finally saw your comment from the 13th. It seems that almost every year I've been in Oregon, one or more climbers have been lost and found dead on Mt. Hood. It may not be every year, but it's been fairly often. It's so sad, as these are usually young people with a great spirit for life and nature, as these three were. I looked up the statistics, and and saw that since they've been keeping records, there has been almost one death per year total on the mountain, but they often occur in groups. There's even an article in Wikipedia about climbing accidents on Mt. Hood. There have been 130 deaths between 1896 and 2002. I don't know how that compares with other mountains, but it seems like a lot. We drive across the shoulder of the mountain on most trips between Astoria and Bend, and it's really a beautiful and probably very compelling mountain - very accessible from Portland, too. I had a nice picture of Mt. Hood I was going to post before I knew this tragedy was taking place. I'll probably post it soon. I didn't know the people, but I think we all feel something when it's close to home. Thanks for your comment.
Dear Jacob, I understood then that most of the residents of this beautiful Village, unlike other cities, prefer to have these cute golf carts than a "Mercedes"or how knows maybe a "Jaguar"! Maybe... it is easier to park! However,I believe those golf cars are also expensive to buy. Where they discovered that fashion style? :) Hugs Léia
@ Cezar and Leia - The Villages is a planned community and was built specifically as a golf car community. It is now quite a large city, with over 70,000 residents...and there are cart paths throughout. However, in the downtown areas, golf cars are allowed on the streets.
Many of these folks are quite well-to-do, and they still have their Mercedes and Jaguars, etc. Some of them add many extras to their golf cars which brings the price up to as high as $20,000 US. Even a basic golf car goes for between $5-7,000!
My little friend, Allison, responded to your comment on my blog posting today! I couldn't have responded better than her comment. Cheerio - "Heagan from Eagan"
The Villages is one of the fastest-growing retirement communities in the United States.
Located in Central Florida, about an hour's drive northwest of Orlando, the Villages is now home to some 150,000 residents, many of which travel the area via golf cart.
There are now three "home towns" in The Villages, Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood. Music and dancing is provided nightly in the town squares of each of the home towns.
The Villages is a beautiful community and we hope you enjoy viewing our photos showcasing its many charms.

I like this shot...I seem to like any shot taken at night. They just seem sort of magical to me.
Love it!! It just cracks me up to see all those carts lined up like that. Use to be Harleys. MB
I wonder if they have snow tyres for these...

Oh my favourite little cars:):):)
Have a great weekend!
Must have been a concert night, look at that! No more space to park even a Smartcar!
Just one, simple question: Do they drive golf carts in "The Villages?"
@ Safe Leif - No, Mr. Hagen from Eagan, they don't drive golf carts in The Villages. The drive golf cars. Sheesh!
@ Ciel - Every night's a concert night - 365 nights a year! At both Lake Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs.
Can you imagine if they all decide to leave at the same time?

@ the Poet - Heh, heh!
@ Small City Scenes - There is at least one Harley club in The Villages!
So which one's TIger's???

@ Safe Leif - I have made an appropriate response on your blog posting for today.
Me thinks, though, you got the last phrase wrong: Didn't you mean to say, "Heathen from Eagan"?
This made me smile again. Thanks, Jacob!
