Restored 1949 Ford


Found this jewel parked at the town square in Lake Sumter Landing. In my last year of high school, several students had bought 1949 Fords and then customized them in a variety of ways, which usually included twin exhaust pipes and lowering the rear end.

I saw a 1949 Ford convertible for sale on eBay - nicely customized. It can be yours for only $17,750 USD.

    Don't you just wish you'd kept half the cars you've owned so you could now pull them out of hiding and make a small fortune. My son laughs at the "priceless" collectibles I've unloaded over the years. (They didn't seem worth much when I sold them.)

    @ Frank - Yes, I've often thought that. My first car was a 1937 Chevy that I lowered, decked, put twin pipes on and fender skirts! Paid $175 for it. Second car was a green Plymouth coupe with faux wood paneling.

    They were wonderful!

    Well, my first car was a "real" Mini Cooper! I loved it dearly, called it allsorts of cute names but it doesn't come anywhere near this beauty!

    As they would have said in the mid-sixties in California, this car is 'cherry.' And it's a cherry color, too. I love it.

    It's amazing how little we paid for our first cars and how affordable they seemed when compared to today's cars that kids drive. What happened? My big expense seemed to always be a new set of retreat tires. A regular expense.

    Hi Frank - did you mean "retreads" vs. "retreat tires"?

    I used to buy retreads, too. Couldn't afford anything else. Sometimes they didn't work too well.

    Obviously this is a Ford Thunderbird with a conversion kit. Not a real 49 Shoebox. I'm only 18 and I could tell you that.

    This may appear to be a 49 Ford, but the body of the car is much newer, it is a kit added to the front of what i think is a Thunderbird from the 90s.
